welcome to my world.

Clodfobble 09-05-2006 11:29 PM

You've been hinting recently at some marital strife, foot... are you just physically tired, or is this a more long-term tiredness? Hope everything's okay in your neck of the woods.

Griff 09-06-2006 06:36 AM

How many months straight have you been working on the house?

footfootfoot 09-06-2006 09:36 AM

Zippy, lj, clod, griff:

All of the above.

Just working too much for too long. Starting to ease up just for health's sake, marital bliss enhancement, and regualr old sanity.

I'm having a sheetrock break right now.

Yesterday the insulation guy came and blew 40 bags of cellulose into the north wall. Next week, we're doing the south wall.

Then that's it for this season. (apart from the siding which can proceed incementally) My Bro in Law helped me get the last five windows in the other day and gave me a big dose of reality, i.e. don't rip the roof off the house and try to attach the addition this winter.

Gee. Ya think? Why this observation escaped my notice, I'm not sure.

As I mentioned we are undertaking the "talking cure" and I am shocked to learn that I am displaying incipient workaholism. Something no one who has ever known me would have guessed in a million years.

I'm not even sure how to have fun any more.

Well, back to work. Which I'm told, by the way, makes one free. But I'm not sure where I heard that...

footfootfoot--have you tried bee pollen? (comes in pill form) that and L-glutamine and lecithin have helped me a lot.

zippyt 09-06-2006 03:54 PM

Here is Dr. Zips RX ,
You your wife and the youngen go away for the week end or for a week , some place relaxing , no work just serenity and play .

Yes, and nearly died of anaphlactic shock, so no thanks.

Zippyt's Rx sounds more to my liking.:D

The pioneers survived, by taking a lesson from mother nature.
Follow the Sun....as the days get shorter, make your days shorter.

Getting into a major project, we tend to push too much when the days are long. Work on getting it buttoned up, not finished, before winter, anything else you complete is a bonus. You've done damn well.:notworthy

Look at what you've done, not what you or anyone else, thinks you should have done. This Old House is a lie...major renovation in 13 weeks...bullshit. They don't show you 40 men working all week before the next show.

The house is where you live, not your life.

limey 09-09-2006 05:50 PM

I second Bruce's excellent advice.

footfootfoot 09-10-2006 12:46 PM

Bruce, you are the voice of reason, limey you're kind of like an echo in this case.

Redefining the priorities and taking a closer look at the difference between "buttoning up" and "opening up" (as in a can of frozen worms)

I spent the last two days off doing next to nothing, Monday it is full court press again for a week or so getting me and another job buttoned up for the winter. Then it can be a casual punch list time after that.

Thanks for the props, dwellarites. :o

F3, your situation sounds pretty familiar. Standing as I am in the wake of the ridiculously long and tedious move, and all that was entailed (and still is, in terms of unpacking), I find all of your symptoms to be similar to my own. Hell, even giving Mrs Elspode the new house she's wanted for ten years hasn't hugely improved things in some ways. Similarly, I can destroy months of good vibes built up from all my hard work and involvement with a single night's imbibement followed by watching football and not accomplishing anything the following day.

Nothing is more stressful than constant, hard work, especially when it involves home and family.
