October 21, 2006: Guy finally washes hair after 26 years

Neatorama notices this at Weird Asia News. (Unsurprising they have a website called that?)

Meet 80-year-old Mr. Luo of Chong Qing city. He hadn't washed his hair in 26 years when he decided he needed a fresh look (and, I'm guessing, a fresh smell) for an upcoming animal sports event. (They don't say anything more about this event, which surely would be IotD fodder...)

All the townspeople lined up to give him a hand. After many failed attempts using regular shampoo, they spent a total of 5 hours and 3 packs of laundry detergent to wash him clean.

That's disturbing..

Look how filthy the water is. Should have stuck him in a washing machine.

Jus' slice it all off, it'd be quicker and easier... and I'm sure theres less hair than dirt up there anyway.

:3_eyes: holy fuck, how does he not step on his beard? If it were me (which would be really scary in the first place seeing as how I'm a chick) I know i'd step on it and pull myself into a face plant.

Is this conclusive evidence that washing hair causes hair loss?

I'm less disturbed by the amount of filth than I am at the prospect of someone having to comb all that shit out. Looks like a rat's nest on steroids.

Maybe it involved dogs and he didn't want to be mistaken for roadkill and be having the dogs trying to roll around in/on him.

I wonder what kind of wildlife his hair and beard supported.

Probably several birds, a squirrel or two, maybe even a small family of raccoons (do they have raccoons in Asia)? All I know is I wouldn't want to be the one having to wash that nasty mess...

Don't worry. Lice, fleas, and scabies hang on even after a good washing. Laundry detergent doesn't usually contain lindane.

What's lindane? Something that kills the lice, fleas, and scabies?
