London Olympics 2012 - oh, dear...
'Well, then, what have we here, constable?'
'Looks like a definite case of misrepresentation with malice, if you ask me, sarge.' 'Oh, really, and what brings you to that conclusion, my lad? 'Well, look at it, sarge - it's all bloated and it's not even moving - I mean there must be £10 billion pounds worth stuffed into it, and it hasn't even moved an inch!' '£10 billion, you say - are you trying to be funny, lad? Last time I looked at it it was only £2 billion.' 'Yeah, I know sarge, but that was 2 years ago - and it looks as if it's had a real going over since then - look at all those marks. People have been laying into it, if you ask me. Poor thing,. And I don't reckon this is the end of it, either.' 'You may be right there my lad. It's not a pretty sight, is it? And a strange one, to boot - sort of nothing to see in one sense but a total calamity in the other. Hang on did I hear it move?' 'More a whimpering sound than any movement. Can we put it out of its misery?' 'Oh, no lad, can't do anything like that for at least another 5 years - and god knows what state it'll be in by then!' 'How can people do this sarge? I mean its criminal, isn't it?' 'Sure is, lad. Someone high up's involved - this has been planned, if you ask me - badly planned, but nevertheless planned. Now, if anyone ought to be arrested....' |
Not a fan?

Yes, a fan of the Olympics - but not of inept financial forecasting that has emerged over the last week or so. Want to take a guess at the final cost, and how much will not be finished on time? I look at the Wembley fiasco (let alone the Millennium Dome) and it sends shivers down my spine. Now lottery money earmarked for other things is being side-lined to plug the current deficit at the expense of the other good causes it was meant to help. The original plan that won us the bid is already being scaled down in size and scope, and yet still the forecasted cost escalates.
The Olympics deserves to succeed, but the cost has been grossly underestimated (but then, I suppose, isn't it always) - People just wonder where it is all going to end financially, because they know who is ultimately going to foot the bill. |
I'm pulling this right out of my ass but, it really seems like if they are managed to be a financial success it'd be better to do it in a 2nd or 3rd world country where the infrastructure development might have significant long term benefit. *shrug*

Someone described it as Lisa Simpson giving a blow job. They're right, you know. |
Oh my god. Now I will see Lisa Simpson giving a blow job all throughout the Olympics.

I just can't imagine that the hassle and expense of hosting it ever pays off. (I'm very glad Philadelphia never had a serious shot at it.)
|
I had a vague hope that Philadelphia would get the chance to host the Olympics, resulting in the razing of North and West Philadelphia to make way for the stadia.

Some people think like that whilst others have the will to implement it:

What a silly article. Everyone knows that the Chinese don't have rights.
