Website Restricting....or something.
I need to know how to restrict access to certain websites from a Kubuntu Linux machine.
I've been having a problem with people taking over my computers and checking their bloody myspaces for hours on end. I don't want to be a dick and tell them to get off, so I'll just hit the problem at its source. I SO want to kill Tom. |
find your hosts file and set myspace.com to 127.0.0.1
|
Would you be OK with it if they were doing something besides myspace? What if they were killing hours reading, say, the New York Times?
If you don't like that either, then you don't really want a web site blocker. You want to tell them to get off the computer. (IMO if it is your computer, then that's not really being a dick.) |
Lol, I wouldn't be upset if they were visiting more than just myspace. oh, and I know how to block off the WHOLE internet access from someone.
|
You really want to configure Dan's Guardian as a gateway then with Squid as the proxy.
There are MANY ways to circumvent HOSTS blocking on PCs. The major users of MySpace are teenagers with a lot of free time on their hands. If you were running Windows, I would suggest Blue Coat WinProxy. However, I will suggest using that solution. |
