5/5/2002: Romanian pig slaughter

Slaughtering a pig, it turns out, is extremely hard work. This image and tons more like it are the travelogue of two friendly-enough people who went to remote northern Transylvania. I'm not sure why, but they went there, and bring back the details of how these villagers live.

This is not a graphic photo compared to some of the others they have there. If you go, you can also see how they kill and prepare sheep, chicken, and their version of a mousetrap. It's all pretty high-bandwidth but pretty cool.

That's if you click on the "Back to Slaughter Page" at the bottom of that link. If you go to "Go see how they prepare the meat", you'll see how natural pig sausage is made in the village. And you'll never eat sausage again.

Technically that is true, but not because I might have visited that page. To eat meat in all it's precious forms you must kill the provider (unless you eat it fresh off the vine.) I find it weird that there are people who think slaughter disgusting but don't mind consuming (albeit tastily prepared) meat.

because slaughter is messy. and we know next to nothing about the animals. we just think it's mean to kill them. because people are hypocrites. who knows. the slaughter isn't the only disgusting part of breeding, raising, and slaughtering. but...i like meat too much to give it up. if, however, i were going to say...have a chicken farm, i would keep them in much better conditions than the commercial "farms" do.

hah. and trying to breed featherless chickens, and those with extra wings, and legs...

if i had a chicken farm i'd sell the eggs, not the chickens.
