When our NetNanny went down, it precipitated a real crisis.

Somebody in IT forgot to give the notice of license expiration to Accounts Payable, see ...

So one night, we try to go onto the internet, and *BAM* EVERYTHING is declared porn. Google, Yahoo, Bible On The Web, everything ...

Including our essential web-based applications that do things like allow us to admit patients into the hospital, look up old records, prescribe medications, determine insurance coverage, etc., etc. etc..

Seems like the particular company we were using used a strategy where it compared the site you were requesting with a list of safe sites, and if your site wasn't on the list, it wouldn't allow you to go there, and well, if you can't poll the list since your license is expired, nothing is on the safe-list ...

IT guy came in from home and had to uninstall the software.

They haven't put anything back on since.

Not that it mattered. One of the guys considered it his sacred duty to find ways around the NetNanny so that he could look at boobies any time he wanted.
