Planet Mars

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting in August. It
will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on
Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the
sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again

Sorry, but it's not true. No way will it look like more than a bright star.

That email has been going around for 2 or 3 years.

yesman065 08-06-2007 08:36 PM

bummer - - see bruce - my mom really does hate me - she sent me that one too :'(

it's so easy to fall for this stuff--just a few weeks ago, there was an email about increased ticket prices and traffic rules which looked totally legit and my boss was printing it and forwarding it to people--but I was able to find out it was a hoax by going to the official government site. But usually, if you check it out, you can tell. A good source for this is Snopes:

you probably hope that people just let this thread die and quit replying to it, huh?

Shawnee123 08-07-2007 07:44 AM

I suspect yesman knew it was a hoax all along. It was all part of an elaborate plan to get the entire Cellar looking up at the sky simultaneously, while he sat back and laughed and laughed.

In related news, August IS the month for the Perseid meteor shower. Around August 12th is the best time to see hundreds of "falling stars" if you're lucky to get a good view, little light (moon is cooperative this year) and good weather. If you catch one, put it in your pocket. Save it for a rainy day. Or send it to me. I could use some stars in my life. :)

I am so gonna get my mom back for this! OK, guys and gals - post something I can email to my mom as retaliation - its time. :)

Shawnee123 08-07-2007 07:59 AM

Maybe it was your mom's elaborate plan?

yesman065 08-07-2007 08:19 AM

Ha freakin ha ha - Anyway this leads me to ask - how do I delete a thread?

I don't think you can delete a thread, yesman, but think of it this way. Hundreds, nay, ones of people now know about the meteor shower.;)

xoxoxoBruce 08-07-2007 06:07 PM

Right on, yesman is doing a public service.
