Where in Italy would you go?
Hi all,
I'm taking my fiance back to Italy for our honeymoon. We are definitely going back to Venice to revisit where I proposed but other then that it's kind of open. We hit Venice and Rome for 5 days each our first trip and I was thinking of slowing it down and going more scenic/romantic for the second. Some places that look good on paper: Cinque Terre Florence Lake Garda and environs Ibiza Has anyone had any personal experiences and could recommend a favorite spot? |
Personal favorites:
Venice Pompeii If you are going to Venice, getting down south to Pompeii may be a trek. And while Pompeii is a nice destination, getting there is very urban and busy. The mountains up north are nice (and close to Venice.) I liked Como but was only there briefly. |

Hello!!
Rome of course. There's no place like it. When you go to drink coffee, don't be looking for what you usually drink. Espresso in Italy is unlike any Espresso you've had anywhere. Eat eat eat. The food is amazing! If you have extra cash, go to Milan and buy some clothes. You're gonna love Italy, it is the absolute best country in Europe to travel to as the people are really nice and positive and compared to other European countries, the prices are reasonable. |
If you've been to Rome and Venice I'd go to Tuscany (region) and especially Siena (city). It's a mediaevil
Any Italian city that has a guide book is worth at least a 5 day tour, and many will reward you if you spend more time there. Try not to think in times if sights to "do". Wherever you go, get a walking guide - Brit & US students in Italy make their living/ spending money on tours and they are very good value |
IBIZA????????
The Spanish Island? The Cancun of Europe and then some? |
Take a ferry to Athens.
|
O h wait -when are you going? Not such a good choice in winter.
|
Lake Garda wouldn't be a bad choice. Especially if you are going by car or choose to hire one. There are many places with spectacular views all around the lake, such as Desenzano at one end and Torbole at the other, plus boat trips too.

Thanks all.
Much to think about. |
I don't know if you're still looking for suggestions, but I'd go to Lake Como:

Hi Silent,
We went to Puglia, in the heel of Italy, for our summer 2007 holiday - it's abit different as you will see if you have a look - I posted info and pics on Cellar about it here |
ciao! we say ciao to greet and to say good bye.. ( first Italian Lesson!) ... anyways .. of course I would recommend Venice: travel by train or leave your car in any Mestre car-park.
THe brenta river, while you are in Venice is gorgeous.. with Venetian country villas..open for parties, theatre, caoncerts, parks... ( try the Buurchiello.. a boat for tourists thoug.. but still enchanting flotaing the river from Padua ( don't foget, Galileo, Giotto, Donatello, St. Anthony...em?) to Venice..with some scenery views, and interesting stoppings... then.. italy of course is magic.. Ibiza is spain!! While in Venice.. if you wish to relax..go to Lido, the beach... very nice to walk along.. well...hope this was of any help... enjoy a coffee in campo santa margherita ( caffe rosso!! ) :D |
Welcome to the Cellar, veniceitaly. :D
