Wanna Play Scrabble?

Seems I'm not the only Word Nerd on here after all. Nothing online and fancy -this is how I used to play online before facebook and all the other sites hasbro shut down. They can't object to this 'cause we're using a real set! ;)

I have a set here. I draw the tiles. We all play with the same tiles. Highest scoring word is played -the person who suggests it first gets the points. Post your attempt in this thread (word, starting position and direction), no edits after the next person has posted, one attempt per player per turn.

Turns are 24 hours (minimum), 48 maximum (ish -I do it when I get to it). I will not post my turn until 16 hours minimum.

We will use both the UK and US Scrabble dictionaries (SOWPODS).

I'm the boss when it comes to disputes. :p
I take no responsibility if the letters are crap :p

Using cheat programs is fine by me if it's fine by you. I don't, but I don't expect to win either, and it's set up so I can lose without losing face ;)

Oh, and appreciate the loved-ness of the tea-stained, warped, Brit Scrabble board that beest and I got as a present our first Christmas together. Aaaaaw ;) I do have a newer yank one, but meh, I like this one. :D

so without further ado, letters for the first turn are: ACEGNRU, turn must cover the star in middle which is a double word score.

several phony bingos here...be sure to post a challenge if you think someone's word is BS -they don't get another go and you may find a variation that gets you the points. plus it's fun ;)

CRAG

jinx 01-18-2008 11:15 PM

GRACE - horizontal starting on the double letter score ending on the middle.

monster 01-18-2008 11:26 PM

So far, Jinx has it with 20...

monster 01-18-2008 11:37 PM

oh, extra thing.....

later on when/if we get a core of regular players, we might move on early if enough agree current winner is unbeatable and all time zones are represented (this can help shift the new turn time so other time zones get first shot, as well as speed up the game).

UNGRACE

I've heard Christian philosophers use it, opposite of being in a state of grace is being in a state of ungrace.

Positioned so the C falls on the double letter score.

EDIT: Vertical, please. No real reason.

CHALLENGE!!

Y'know, because I can. And because Christian philosophers make up words all the damn time--I've heard it used too, but that doesn't mean the Scrabble dictionary agrees with them.

how about UNCAGE starting with the U in the center square, G on the DL for 22 points

wonder if UNCAGER is a word......someone who uncages would be an uncager.....

i think i'll risk it..... put me down for 74 points

monster 01-19-2008 06:53 PM

OK,

neither UNGRACE or UNCAGER are acceptable.

GRACE was also my best shot. or UNCAGE or CRANE which also score 20. I'd've probably picked crane to keep the U and G, but Jinx spoke out first....

I'll give it a few more hours, I might not wait until midnight because I'm an evil rule-breaker. :D

lumberjim 01-19-2008 07:13 PM

isnt uncage worth 22?

Cloud 01-19-2008 07:23 PM
