As days go by it looks less and less like the India-Paki conflict will go nuclear (or "nuke-u-lar" as the Pres like to say, as literate folks everywhere grit their teeth).

But just in case it does, here's a nice map of how the fallout will fly, according to wind patterns, and I guess, probable targets.

You can see how India has a much greater interest in preventing this from happening.

Hmm.. I didn't realize it would get into Africa. That sucks, because there's a lot of really cool research going on in the Great Rift Valley.

If it goes nuclear, India may be hurting... but Pakistan will cease to exist as a country. India has one big advantage going for it: More area.

Me, I'm just glad they don't have ICBMs and are on the other side of the world. Selfish? You betcha...

I hope the Saudis see this, because in such an exchange it looks like Pakistan would essentially be pissing in the wind towards their Muslim brothers on the Arabian Peninsula and in East Africa. Maybe they can exert some pressure on the Pakis to not be so stupid.

However, I'm not sure about the prevailing wind patterns depicted here because as everyone knows: China sucks!

That's just the 72 hour fallout drift.

If the dust from the Gobi desert reaches Arizona in 6 days, there's a good probability that nuclear fallout from an India/Pakistan war would directly affect the USA, which wouldn't be protected by selfish, isolationist foreign policies.

If they don't protect us from fallout (which is why I suported them) then what are they good for? The steel industry?

Ahh, it's times like these I am both pleased and proud to live down near the "bottom" of the world in a 100% nuclear free, clean and (mostly) green nation (New Zealand) with no war-scale arguments with other countries.

You can all keep your nuclear weapons and nuclear power we are quite happy without them.

We love our nuclear power!
 

Without nuclear power the United States wouldn't have nearly as much electrical generating capability as it has for the powering of giant lasers and sound systems, nor would we have such a great source of raw material for the cheap manufacture of glow sticks.

This situation reminds me of the book "On the Beach" by Nevil Shute, which deals with the after-effects of a fictional nuclear war.

Yea they made a movies of that here in melbourne - it was shocking.

However, I'm not sure about the prevailing wind patterns depicted here because as everyone knows: China sucks!

Maybe the government sucks, but the country itself is the most amazing country you'll ever visit - great people, great food. Visit Beijing for these two reasons alone, and you'll come away with a different perception of China "the government" and China "the country".

That's not much different a commentary for those of you who've been to other countries, but it's especially true for China.

I have a friend that's in China right now for school (Shanghai). She tells me that even though she digs chinese food, she is eating some <b>weird</b> shit right now. :) She also noted that she tends to get a lot of looks, namely because she's <b>pale</b> (like me) and they're <b>not</b>.

Now, that having been said, I still want to go there. Not about the food, but about the people and its rich history. Lot of amazing little things happening in China... just gotta brush up on my Chinese first. :)
