No, not really.

ZenGum 08-25-2008 08:19 PM

First post ... no thoughtful comment ... and a link ...
sigh, don't people READ things?

Maui Nick 08-25-2008 08:26 PM

Reading is apparently not interesting.

Nirvana 08-25-2008 08:48 PM

Ouch! I am moderated and as a new poster my posts are not really timely and the reason I posted was to hear others comments on the video. Personal attacks are fine too if thats normal here.

Nice to meet you Nirvana, welcome to the Cellar.

May I suggest that you take a few minutes to read the board rules? Seriously, not being funny. There's some interestng stuff in there about who we are and what the board is about.

There's nothing inherently wrong with what you've posted. But, as a tip for the future, I'd suggest putting a little more of yourself into it. So, instead of just posting 'interesting' with the clip, perhaps just give us a little indication of why you find it interesting/challenging/annoying/wonderful/ etc.

That way, not only do we have something a little more engaging than just a youtube link, we also get to see a little of who you are as a poster:)

[eta] from time to time we get 'spammed' by a new poster (there was one recently who was a bit of a pain) and one of the things that can tend to happen with some of them is that they drop a link into their first post and don't really engage with the community beyond that. I am sure that's not what you are doing, but it may help explain why people are suspicious or slightly hostile to this kind of opening post.

Yes. Tis true, no matter who gets the White House, our future rests squarely in the hands on Congress. That's where we must focus our efforts to make them clean up their act, or get the fuck out. :thumb:

classicman 08-26-2008 07:54 AM

I agree with Bruce - the important elections are the congressional ones. We need some change there, cuz this group has done NOTHING. OH wait they took a really long vacation after doing nothing. Does that count as doing something?

Nirvana 08-26-2008 03:06 PM

Perhaps I misinterpreted this suggestion in the FAQ
"The Cellar is like an electronic tavern. Behave as you might at a real-life tavern. Don't barge in and interrupt every table in the place. Walk in and sit down, wait for something you know about and politely put in your two cents."
I never did find a rule that said I had to give my life history, tell everyone the name of my dog, then make a post. If my post was not interesting, I apologize.
Nice to meet you DanaC

Clodfobble 08-26-2008 04:28 PM

So in a real-life tavern, you'd walk up to a bunch of strangers, put a book on the table in front of them, say "This is interesting," and wait for their response? Could you blame them if they assumed you were a book salesman?

Nirvana 08-26-2008 04:34 PM

A 2 minute video (?) is not a book and I am not a Youtube salesman. :)
I thought others might enjoy the point of view, I am assuming you did not. My icebreaker is a failure? Well off to other tables for me then or maybe a seat next to Norm and Cliff. ;)

Clodfobble 08-26-2008 04:40 PM

It wasn't the point of view, it was the presentation. Both the anonymous video-dropping on your part, and the silly costume on the speaker in the video.

But hey, if you're gonna stick around, that would be cool.

Nirvana 08-26-2008 04:45 PM

I will thank you! Now I am off to start a limerick thread!

ZenGum 08-26-2008 08:19 PM

Hi Nirvana ... so, what IS your dog's name? Can we have pictures? I mean, who doesn't like dogs?

classicman 08-26-2008 09:36 PM

I have three cats, yet I still prefer dogs.

Oh and yes - we NEED pics
