arrrrrrrrgh.. this whole process has got to be grossly bloated and inept.

Does anyone have any suggestions/warnings that might be of help in this process? I've already done the basic's (home inspection, applied for mortgage, etc), but still have the nagging feeling that I am missing something (although I'm sure it's stupid).

Outside of that... I'm already prepared to move in.. I've got my wireless networking gear set... who needs furniture? :)

heres a suggestion - dont buy a house when youre about to lose your job. sorry, im bitter. :)

actually, given my limited but recent experience, youre doing fine. i was actually having my house built, and that was a serious pain in the ass. i guess the only thing you didnt mention was make sure your down payment and closing costs are all in order.

The amount of money you think need for closing: add $1000. It's like there are hidden costs everywhere.

It sounds like you're pretty far along to be asking for advice!

Undertoad's right.. you know that pretty, itemized form you got from your bank detailing all the fees they charge for the mortgage? Throw that baby in the trash, because it won't look anything like that.

But if you have a good buyer's agent, which hopefully you do, they should keep any surprises from getting ya. Don't be afraid to ask them questions; they just assume you know what they're talking about if you don't tell them.

The cool part about the buyer's agent is that you don't pay for them, the seller does!

I was given the closing formula as follows:

closing = good faith estimate * 2

I was just agrivated with the whole process when I posted (and still am), a little unnerved by everything that goes on. Fortunatly, I've got an attorney who kicks ass and checks over everything from head to toe.

The inspectors went through today without much concern. Everything that did stick out is covered under the contract. The lawyer is after one of the estate owners to sign all copies as they only signed 2 copies.

20 days & counting until closing...

My closing costs came in right at the estimate.

Got word today that the mortgage should be complete, but of course they need copies of checks I deposited yesterday
