7/31/2002: Buried Bogota protestor
http://cellar.org/2002/bogotaprotest.jpg
Another one: it would appear that the Colombian protestors featured here a few weeks ago were not an isolated case. Here another Colombian protestor is making a non-violent statement about poverty by having himself buried. But this gent is taking it a step further: his eyes and lips were sewn shut for the protest. The obvious message is that he is becoming as powerless as the people he is fighting for. I wouldn't have the guts to do it but you have to appreciate the guy, and the whole approach. |
Protest?
To whom do you protest people being poor?
Is he in front of a bank? It sucks to be poor but wouldn't there be better things to do than to make yourself inert baggage? Wouldn't it be better to get a jo- no! that would never work! |
dude..
the unemployment rate is 20%, and 55% of the population lives below the poverty line there... The manufacture and export of heroin and cocaine are pretty much the main industries.. so saying "Why don't you get a job, you lazy fuck?" is pretty much tantamount to "Why don't you go work for a drug cartel, you lazy fucks?" Where we live, we can basically go make minimum wage working at mcdonalds or something. There is no such luxury down there (even though the literacy rate is in the 90's)... Anyways.. imagine how badly off (or how much better?) they'd be without the drug trade to support them... ... ;p |

ndetroit got it right. Don't take your view of the world and assume that it is the same everywhere else. You and I (assuming you are in the US) are extraordinarily lucky to be living in a place where there is enough of everything for (basically) everyone. Even if we do have the fourth Stooge for a leader at the moment. |

OTOH, I live in south america, and when unemployment hits, it hits hard. People isn't lazy, just don't have where to work, and we don't have any type of help, like unemployment insurance, or something like that. You don't have a job, you are on your own. Regards, |

A moron in the oval office is still a moron. And technically, he's the 6th stooge. Moe, Larry, Curly, Curly Joe (no relation), and Shemp. |

Joquarky and Russotto, what the hell are you talking about? What does the Patriot Act have to do with civil disobedience?
Here's a rather negative and thorough critique of the Patriot Act, and even there I can't find any way of construing it as an attempt to crack down on civil disobedience, or even how it could be misused that way. |
OK, I didn't notice your link had additional pages at first Joquarky. I see where you get it from, but that's still a pretty far-reaching stretch.
