Any Cellarites members of the SCA?
Follow-up, any of youz live in Atlantia? Follow-up, any Atlantians going to Ymir on Valentine's Day? |
No, but what the heck, bring on the wenches.

Used to be, used to be, never been, OnyxCougar. I resided in Lochmere before it was Lochmere, and in its earliest years. Managed to hit a few Pennsics. Now I'm in Caid.
Nowadays most of my endeavors in a medievalist way are on the armour-nerd boards. Google "Konstantin the Red". That should get you both The Armour Archive and a couple of maillers' boards. |
I started playing in Atenveldt.
I was in Starkafn, Caid for awhile, but everything happened in Cali, and I couldn't afford the trip. Same with Drachenwald. Now I'm in Atlantia, and making plans to start going to at least the events within 4 hours of me. |
Of which there are so freakin' many. Tough to pick sometimes. You end up having to swap off between years.
Drachenwald -- you were military? I was still in the Navy when I made it to Twenty Year Celebration. What an experience that was! Dost fight heavy or light? I joined for the fighting, rapidly developed a lively interest in heraldry, occasionally take a fumble at calligraphy, which I enjoy but have some doubts as to my talent. I've played with nice natural hands like uncial and half uncial, but angular hands like blackletter may be more my forte. And I've taken my bagpipes to Pennsic and been complimented... remarkable how many bagpipe fans SCAdia includes. |
Not a member, but we have some cross-polination in the fencing club. For insurance purposes we ask that the heavy/sharp items stay in the bag. :D

I probably would have enjoyed it, but by the time I got to know someone who was an active Scadian, I was out of the demographic.
|
The demographic? Wolf, there are SCAdians who have died of old age -- or complications thereof. Author Poul Anderson was just one. We're starting to do necrologies. If ever you were fond of "days of old, knights were bold" and anything else that went with it, the SCA is for you. Admittedly, it isn't quite academically rigorous, but you can find people within it who are. Post-Classical to pre-seventeenth-century Europe plus peoples Europeans came in contact with before 1603 AD may not be the very tight focus that Living History groups have, but the relatively low entry level bar setting lets a lot of people in to start enjoying... and in the SCA so many nerdlies and not-so-closeted romantics find a home. The Society is unparalleled as a dating pool for nerds... every lover I've ever had was at least a onetime SCAdian, and so is the wife.

I was in Amtguard for a while. Not enough to really create a persona. Fun though.

Demographic my ass, Wolf. There are a LARGE number of over 40 folks in Atlantia (Maryland, VA, NC, SC, GA) and the East (North of Atlantia). The sensechal of my group is 67, his wife is 65, our Herald is 73, our former herald is lower 60s, I'm 38, my man is 40, our rapier fighters are late 30s, early 40s, and kids and grandkids that play are anywhere from 2 or 3 to 22. That's just one little group. If you can think of it (and it was done in Europe, Asia or the Middle East between 600 and 1600 AD) then I guarantee someone in the SCA has done it/is doing it/will be doing it soon. Brewing, Needlework, Blacksmithing, Armouring, Leather, Sewing, Knitting, Navigation, Shipbuilding, Equestrian, Archery, Thrown Weapons, Fencing, Singing, Dancing, Musicianship, Jewelrymaking, Alchemy, Medicine, Herbalism, Gardening, Cooking, Baking, Subtleties, Pavilion making, Merchanting, Poetry, Scrivening, Bookmaking, Scrollworks, Illumination, Heraldry. That's just a FEW!!! You can go as superficial or as deep into the research as you please. There are ALOT of folks that I think are way too deep into the research. |
By the way....
I finally got my AoA!!! (I was actually awarded the Order of the Opal, which is an armigerous award in Atlantia.) I've already started cross stitching my badge, which will hang from my belt. |
Am in Caid, used to be in Meridies when I first joined. Went to Saltare this year over Valentine's Day. Is in south-southeast GA; not sure which shire. Used to live in shire of Glaedenfeld in Meridies.
|
By the way, OnyxCougar, just saw your AOA post. Much congratulations! :)
|
Indeed, Vivat!
