Feb 12, 2009: Hotfoot's Bird
BusterB pointed out this colorful stainless steel bird.
It was created by a guy who calls himself Hotfoot on the Weld Talk forums, at the Hobart Welding Products website. First he build the bird from a piece of exhaust tubing, a ball joint and a whole lot of stainless flatwear. Pretty clever. ;) http://cellar.org/2009/bird1.jpg Then the bird is brushed with Linseed Oil and Japan dryer. Heating the bird with a propane brush burner causes the oil to change color from yellow to gold to copper to brown to black. You can stop at any color and it will dry to a weather resistant finish. http://cellar.org/2009/bird2.jpg The red on the bird is a reflection from the guy's truck. I wonder if this bird will show up on the Antiques Roadshow, in 50 years, as folkart? |
Verry cool !!

Pretty! Hobart welding is up here in Troy, ohio; right?

Way cool.
I've long had an idea to make a fish sculpture using spoons as scales, and other cutlery for its features. This guy could knock one up, no worries. |

Outstanding talent. And original. I bet it would be even better on a much larger scale.

I'd love to have one of those birds. I wonder if they are for sale?
