I've got a JR terrier....
She's five, named Autumn (already named, obviously). Her previous owner was such a douche that he kept her crated (crate a Jack Russel??) and never got her spayed. He kept her then dumped her on his mother - a woman who boards horses and has her own little share of cats and dogs, etc. I think because Auty was crated she is oblivious to danger and there was real fear that the horses would kill her (she didn't know enough to get out of their way!) (oh, yeah, at the farm she was let out of the crate)
I have her now. she is VERY sweet, and despite what you might think due to her not knowing about Very Big Animals and Cars, she is smart. She is obedient and only wants to please and be loved. Sweet girl. Thing is, my cats are now on strike. I am doing my best to make this introduction smooooooth, baby, but the dog wants to hunt. any suggestions would be welcome! |
Time and as careful attendance as you can manage. They will eventually sort out their own little pecking order. Most likely with Autumn at the bottom but occasionally brooking that with a quick chase.

Gee Bri - I had a bunch of sarcastic remarks, but thought better of them.
I think the animals are gonna have to work it out on their own. We brought in an older cat when the only pet we'd had for years was our dog. Took a few weeks, but they worked it out. |
First piece of advice? Post a picture. ;)
Bless you for adopting an older dog. We adopted a German Shepherd when he was 5, and he's such a great dog. |
The cats will get the Autumn under control in no time.
Have a great time with her. Oh, incidentally ... has she since been spayed? |
Obedience training. It's fun, it helps the dog enormously and helps you to understand what the dog is saying.

When Tajjy came along, Toonces wouldn't come out from under the bed for a week. They then became best friends. Then Gaines caused those two to hide for a week. Then Madison made them hide for a week.
Animals figure it out. I want to see pics of Autumn too. How great she found a loving home. |

Good job Bri. I can't wait to see a pic *cough*... she sounds adorable. The cutest puppy I ever saw was a JR, and my friend had one that was on springs.... just sprung all over the place, even hopped up on top of the other dogs when it needed to see better...
