South GA

Choco and I spent a long weekend in south GA in an attempt to escape and relax the horror that has been this semester. It was wonderfully tranquil and the area was surprisingly a lot of fun to explore. Even had quite a bit of good food at local restaurants.

The population of the town we stayed in, Axson GA, was so tiny that we quickly became the center of conversations at some of the places we ate, with most people wanting to know what made us even consider taking a vacation to their area.

Plenty of old, forgotten farms in the area.

...but some beautiful places to spot wildlife. We managed to spot plenty of deer, a grey fox, and countless species of birds.

We stayed at the inn shown above with a huge piece of property on its own lake and row upon row of slashpine. Haven't seen stars in the night sky like we did there in a long time!

Cool.

Pssst, Kitsune... it was Choco that was the center of attention. :haha:

Clementine, the "vicious guard dog" at the inn. Here, she is trying to convince somebody -- anybody -- to rub her belly.

A view of a house across a field from the inn.

On my list of vacations to take is a week in the Okeefenokee with a canoe, a tent and some stuff.

Make sure that "some stuff" includes snake and gator repellent.

If you want to rest up in a nice, comfy bed before/after that camp trip, I highly recommend The Inn at Still Pond. It was only about 40 minutes away from the swamp, and it was honestly one of the best vacations I've ever had.

It is a fantastic place. If you want some tips on where to start and a few things to see let me know.

This guy, too -- the character was plastered everywhere. I had completely forgotten this strip even existed until we got near the swamp.

I have spent A LOT of time in that city. :D

Loved the historic areas in Waycross -- wonderful buildings I so desperately wanted to get into and explore. We ate an incredible dinner at the Pond View Inn down there and can't wait to go back. If you have any suggestions on other places in the area to visit, we'd love to know for next time!

Pond View is prob one of the best places to eat in town. There is one other nice place, after that, nadda. It is truely one of those southern towns always on the edge of a death throw. I hear they may actual shut the RR yard which would put a nail in the coffin of Waycross, which is actually where they got their name from because it was the cross roads of all the major RR's and freight in the Southern area. My dad has memories of the place from the 50's and 60's and at that time it was quite the city.

One of my first teen crushes lived in Waycross. Long time ago. She was a farmer's daughter. I think all the girls there were.
