Do yourselves a favor when mailing packages for the holidays or other times of the year...

I receive, in my job, hundreds of packages during the year. Most of the time the items I receive are well packed and arrive undamaged. However, there are times when items are mailed and not packed well at all. Once this year I received a PC that was not packed the way PC's are usually packed. It was loose in a large box with a little bit of packing paper included. Needless to say, it met its demise. So much for a $1000 piece of equipment that was sent here to be repaired.

Just today I received two out of four gallons of Yellow paint. The other two cans of paint had their contents emptied in the trailer that was hauling it. Granted, you're not going to mail several gallons of paint or even a PC cross country to your brother, sister or In-laws.

This was only two incidents out of hundreds. Still, pack your packages well. I'm talking about using bubble wrap, packing paper, cardboard and even those plastic bags you get from the grocery store. Pack things tight with packing. If you're running out of packing material then unravel some kitchen trash bags and crumble them up. They make great packing material. Bubble wrap's the best.

It doesn't matter which company you use - USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL. They have people working for them and people have a tendency to get in a hurry and "chuck, toss, throw" boxes into carrier containers which could damage the contents of any package that is not packed well.

Crumpled newspaper in a pinch, but bubblewrap is bestest. :thumb:

And provides an evening's worth of entertainment, fun for the whole family.

A lot of vendors have switched to those air-pillow things, which are nowhere near as much fun.

I always use dead hobos -very squishy and much cheaper than bubble wrap

Seriously, it has excellent shock-absorbtion abilities, fills loose space well, and is biodegradable, or even possibly edible.

I bought a big 22 inch Lacie monitor on Ebay a few years ago and when it arrived it was totally smashed. Whoever packed it just set it in the box on the plastic swivel base and put some crumpled paper around it. This monitor must have weighed 50 lbs so the base was not only shattered but the whole casing for the monitor was in pieces.

Luckily it was a company deal and they warranted their products so I got a full refund.

If I ever received a box with popcorn as filler I would be so stymied I wouldn't know what to think. Except maybe it's too deeply weird for words.

Not you zen just popcorn filler.

Popcorn works, although it the package takes a lot of hits, it will tend to break up and compress.
