Can liquor go bad?
I've got several unopened airline-type bottles dating to 1967. One tax seal says 1961. Didn't know they went that far back. Gin, vodka, bourbon, scotch. Safe to drink?
|
I'd go for it. Then again, I'm an alcoholic. Choose wisely.
|
It shouldn't pose a health concern. The taste might be affected if they were stored improperly (direct sun light or temperature extremes). Go for it!!
|
Sell 'em on E-bay and get yourself what you really want. There are people on there who will buy anything.
|
As a former alcoholic, the shelf life of liquor in my house had about two hours, so I wouldn't know. I did have a friend who had some home-made mead go bad. Oh, come to think of it, I did buy a bad bottle of wine once. It wasn't corked properly.
|
did you drink it anyway? I would have. That's how you know you're dedicated to your craft.

Hard liquor is distilled, it's just alcohol and water and whatever aromatics/flavors will gas-off at distillation temps. Possibly some of the flavor of the gin might fade, but there's not going to be any enzymatic activity in a sealed bottle of hard liquor. As always, I'm just a squirell, so take my advice at your own risk. |
Hard liquor stays good. They apparently just found crates of whisky in Shackleton's basecamp that are still drinkable. It's a big coup for the distiller in question, apparently, because they can now compare their current production with the old stuff.
What I need to know is the shelf life on an unopened bottle of Baileys. I have a bottle of Penn Dutch Egg Nog (pre-liquored, sealed glass bottle) that's been in the fridge too long too ... how long until they are classed as biohazards? There's no expiration date on the bottles. |
Liquor doesn't go bad. People who DRINK liquor go bad. ;-)

My Mom had a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream from her wedding.
It had been kept in a cabinet for 30 years, no temp control, no special care, etc. She gave it to me to give to a friend who said it was the smoothest drink he'd ever had. |
eBay, huh? Ya think eleven of 'em will bring enough to be worth the effort? I don't drink a lot of liquor, but I'm partial to Wild Turkey and Crown Royal, so I'm looking at like thirty-five bucks to get good-n-greased. Maybe the ol' Heaven Hill vodka @ $12.85 a half-gallon is in the works.:drunk:

I'd have my doubts about an egg-nog.
