May 13, 2010: Wind Power Granny

Well, not a real Granny, a wind powered knitting machine.
It's not real versatile in that only knits a long tube, but it's automatic and powered for free.

Quote:

With the power of the wind, a knitting machine knits from the outside towards the inside of a building. The knitted material is harvested from time to time and rounded-off in individually packaged scarves. Each scarf has its own label which tells you in how much time it has been knitted and on which date.
It's a demonstration of the possibities... and one huricane would do enough, you could take a long vacation. ;)

I need to build one. That's a great idea!

I have a strong desire to swing off that scarf.

My granny had a lot of wind too.

That has to be in a London square.
A great idea, although I doubt the inhabitants have to economise.

Then again, despite the fact necessity is supposed to be the mother of invention I expect most inventions come from people who don't have to live hand to mouth...

They added a wind catching fan to a hand cranked machine, that was invented probably 150 years ago, to speed up production over hand knitting. Part of the industrial revolution that made Britain so wealthy.
This installation has nothing to do with economizing.
