I need help making a searchable database

I want to organize all my notes and e books into a searchable data, but I'm not sure where to go here: SQL, Acess, C++, xlm...

First things first :

What kind of usage : Personnal / Professionnal ?
How many items do you intend to enter into this base ?
What kind of search do you wish to perform ?

C++ is a programming language but not a database.
XML is a description language, can be used to store data but not a database per se.
SQL is a database language: OK but which one? MySQL, Oracle, SYBASE, PostgreSQL... And no interface to speak of.

Access is a database, has a language (VBA) you can learn and can do a nice interface job.

But there's an even more important question: is there someone outside that has already done it?

In other words, is there a ready made program that can do what you need? That way you wont loose ay time in organizing your data, building your database and programming the interface?

Unless, of course, you absolutely want to learn how to do it by yourself...

I'm an IT professional and work for one of the biggest real estate company in France. I routinely use database programs and create interfaces for data access.

What kind of usage : Personnal / Professionnal
more personal than professional in that I will be the only one to use the data base.

How many items do you intend to enter into this base: I want to

orgainze my notes, search able books, peer reviewed papers, so lower to mid thousands most likely under 10k enteries

What kind of search do you wish to perform: keyword based searches, for instances if I enter "speed of light" I would want my personal writing , and a page from my physics book.

The closest program I have found is OneNote by Microsoft and I'm not sure if it will do all that I need. But I'm a quick study and have a lot of time on my hand, far more time than money.

My anti-virus flag that site

Strange, it's not flagged for me neither at home nor at the office with 2 different anti-virus suites (BitDefender and McAfee).
