Motorists push a stalled truck through flood waters Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 in Houston. Rain soaked southeast Texas causing street flooding which snarled traffic during the morning commute in some areas. As much as 7 to 9 inches of rain fell during the night in the Houston area, causing flooding that forced more than 120 people to flee their homes, said Jim White, emergency management coordinator for Harris County. Houston, we have a problem.

We haven't heard from Chris since the 28th.

Nah, it's not me syc, but it just as well could have been...

Monday night the water on my street was almost knee-deep, and that has never happened here before (at least in the last four years since I moved in). In fact it has never risen over the curb, even last year during the floods from tropical storm Allison. Although Houston is pancake flat, my house is on an imperceptible rise which actually puts it outside the 100-year flood plain. A mile down the road they MUST purchase flood insurance.

This problem is getting worse and it's not going away. It's what happens when you carpet 1000 square miles with concrete and don't provide adequate drainage.

On the other hand, it might be a good excuse to buy that boat I've had my eye on :D
