Is it wrong . . .

It seems like every time I go to this chain store, different cities sometimes, they seem to forget to ring up an item. Most of the time I don't realize this until I am halfway home or home.

[I live in the middle of nowhere and these stores are about 20 miles in any direction] What do you do when this happens?

Cloud 04-07-2011 07:55 PM

if I make it out to the car with the extra item, without either me or the store realizing it, I keep it. I figure I spend so much at these stores, they've probably overcharged me a time or two, so it evens out.

I'm talking a few bucks here. If it was an expensive item, I'd probably go back to the store with it.

what you SHOULD do and what I'd do are two different things, I'm afraid.

fuck em.

TheMercenary 04-07-2011 08:25 PM

But they do not want to "fuck you" so you are out of luck, so now what?

jimhelm 04-07-2011 08:27 PM

rape?

The retail chain already marks up their prices to account for the overhead of lost/stolen/damaged goods (which there is a really nice word for, but not one I can place place right now.)

Bringing the merch back inside to pay for it, while a charming gesture, is fairly insignificant to the chain's bottom line. But probably very significant for the cashier, whose manager will probably catch wind, etc.

If the guilt becomes unbearable, donate the $ value of all the stuff you've accidently been given by the chain to a local charity and call it square. Presumably you could even make the donation in the name of the chain, although handling the paperwork to get them the tax writeoff might be over the top.

Next I'll find if for sale at a small table set up on the sidewalk in the city, next to the knock-off Rollex and Roy-Bans.

You like? You like? I give good price. What? You no like? How about this ring? Made of real Diamonoid.®
