wolf Saves Easter Dinner
So, I ended up with three invites to Easter dinner this year.
I have a long-established policy of accepting the first invite, so as not to show favoritism. Consequently, I am now booked for this coming Thanksgiving, as well as Easter 2012 and 2013. Last night my friend made a lovely dinner ... Lamb, green beans almondine, and roasted potatoes. All quite yummy. Everything was going nicely, until my friend asked her daughter, who had done the shopping ... "Did you get the crescents?" This, of course, means Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, an important part of any family holiday dinner. You could feel the happiness melt out of the room ... "What do you mean you didn't get any crescent rolls? That's when I sprang into action, pulled the combatants apart, and started asking where stuff was ... went online and found a biscuit recipe that they had all the necessary ingredients for, and set to work mixing and kneading. Everything was done and ready while the meat was resting and being carved. |
WTG Wolf! Is this an indication of your new career? Emergency pastry chef?

What makes all of this funnier is the family's amazement that you could just grab some stuff and make biscuits.
It never occurred to any of them that you could do that ... I'm talking four generations of women in the same household. (not to mention that one of them has an associates degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, which included culinary classes. Seriously.) |
I got a rise out of this story

Can you carve, Wolf?
Someone should have saved our leg of lamb from Mum's hacking. If I took a picture of the chunnks of meat we were offered to choose from they'd make your eyes water. Oh wait - is carving a known skill in America? Not a snide comment, a genuine question, because you cook your meat until it can be eaten with a fork, right? Then again you have sandwich meats... I'm all confused now. Someone come and save me from Easter! |
If you think you have an explanation for ANY bacaon, then you, sir, are either a liar or a fool.

She got skillz!
