Best Roller Coasters in the World Ever?

What's your favorite?

infinite monkey 06-17-2011 08:12 AM

My favorite will always be The Beast at King's Island. First car, last ride of the night...you're flying through the dark woods, in and out of tunnels. With no cars in front of you, you feel like you're manning some crazy space vehicle.

It's been awhile since I've been anywhere to rollercoast. I was at Cedar Point some years ago when The Millennium Force was new and I loved that too.

But we spent so much time at KI when I was in HS...it will always be my favorite.

side note: my dad was a foreman on the roads crew when they were building KI. We went that first year it was open. My first coaster was The Racer, and I was just tall enough to ride. My dad said I could scream but I better not cry. I realized what he meant (because I was thinking that you're even MORE scareder if you're screaming, right?) when I got off the coaster and immediately wanted to go again. He has 8mm footage of much of the park at the time. Pretty cool.

Sadly I've not been to any big theme park.
The only ones I've been on that count were at Blackpool and Alton Towers.

Given my druthers I'd have a woodie though.
The one at Great Yarmouth has a special place in my heart as it was my first. It's still there - I'll be going on it again in July :)
Mum went on it when she was pregnant with my sister (although she didn't know it at the time). The story would be better if she had been pregnant with me of course, but that would have been out of season... In those days there was a brake-man on it. Dad taught me that the seat behind him was the best seat, because you got the full benefit of the drops.

I love Nemesis at Alton Towers, because it is fast and furious rather than high. I dislike Oblivion because it is the opposite - one enormous drop and whoosh, it's over.

I really want to go to America to go on rollercoasters!
My bro often brings me back footage with makes me seethe with envy.

Ahh yes...car position matters. During the DAY at King's Island you wait for the LAST car, because you are totally flying going down that first hill.

I've got it down to a science. An art, really.

I would love to win the lottery and hit rollercoasters all over the country.

The Beast is an all-time favorite of mine too, and that first car is essential. I liked the Racer too because you could get some damn good air time. My first ever favorite was the Whizzar at Great America. My current favorite is the Rapter at Cedar Point.

I HAVE to get to KI this summer. I just HAVE to.

The Comet at Hersheypark (where the chocolate comes from).

I thought it was WAY better than the SooperDooperLooper (since dismantled) and the Lightening Loops and Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure.

Sundae 06-17-2011 10:13 AM

FUCK.
ME.

I'd heard ot The Beast, knew it was American, but had NO idea it was a woodie, or that it deserved the name.

WOW!

I wanna.
I SO wanna.

infinite monkey 06-17-2011 10:17 AM

Win I win the lottery, you're coming here and we're going to see The Beast! :)

edit: I'm keeping the typo. It's prophetic. Not WHEN I win. Win, I win!

Sundae 06-17-2011 10:23 AM

And win I win you're coming over here for an extended tours (of the pubs!) and we'll go to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and eat proper chips and battered sausages.

(I likey win I win)

infinite monkey 06-17-2011 10:34 AM

I can't wait until win I win because a trip to your neck of the woods is on the topz of my agendaz!
