Netflix instant watch

Oooh. STNG seasons 1-7 is available for instant viewing. Cool.

glatt 08-11-2011 02:50 PM

Make it so.

BigV 08-11-2011 02:53 PM

would like the full title of the recently hailed and praised Sherlock blah blah blah from Netflix streaming, *please*. having a hard time searching for it... well, searching is fine, finding is failing.

glatt 08-11-2011 02:58 PM

Yeah, before I suspended Netflix, I had a hard time finding a lot of things on instant. They have some neat stuff on there, but it's really hit or miss what they have available at any time. And it changes too.

thank you!

Netflix is now dead to me.

Clodfobble 08-13-2011 07:02 PM

Why is that?

footfootfoot 08-14-2011 01:04 PM

Because they doubled their rates, because they rarely have streaming movies that I want to watch, because we nearly never have time to watch the ones they ship to us. We usually watch one shipped movie a month, if that. I watch maybe four streaming movies a month, if that. My usage is not worth $16. a month. Also, I suspect they fiddle with what is available. I have seen things available streaming that suddenly are no longer available.

elSicomoro 08-14-2011 01:57 PM

I'm going to keep streaming and DVD, but I do get frustrated by what is and is not available for streaming. For example...everything from the new Doctor Who is available for streaming except for ONE FUCKING EPISODE! Really?!

Clodfobble 08-14-2011 06:16 PM

It's all to do with licensing. They'd be thrilled to let you stream their entire collection; it's cheaper for them than maintaining/shipping a DVD collection. It's the movie owners/distributors who don't want their stuff instantly available to anyone, anywhere, anytime they want, for a mere flat fee. Kids' movies especially will be available for a short time, and then removed by the distributor, because they want you to have to go out and buy the DVD now that your kid has seen it and wants to watch it a hundred times in a row.

But I will admit, we use the streaming feature far more than most. More for TV shows than for movies, but either way it's on just about every single day, either for us or the kids.

I thought I had posted this information to the Cellar, but I can't see that I have. I truly, deeply, apologize that I failed to report this, the most important entertainment event of this year as far as I am concerned.

True story: I'm at the museum with my kids and this exchange occurs:

the girl: Let's pretend we're the characters from Star Trek the Next Generation

the boy: I'll be the guy with the laser goggles!

the girl: You mean the blind guy?

In my house we wacth Netflix through our Wii console all day long, every day. It is true that it doesn't have "everything" but I can say that I have never run out of cool things to watch. My instant queue sometimes hits the limit (500 entries).

elSicomoro 08-15-2011 12:41 PM

L&O seasons 1-9 and 13 are available, but not 10-12 and 14-20 on DVD...huh?

I haven't run out of things to watch either...I think I've currently got 30 or 40 things in my queue. Still have to catch up on Doctor Who...might actually be able to watch the new episodes on BBC next month!

Griff 08-15-2011 03:23 PM

Oooo... Voyager is on Netflix. We never watched the last season as we had basically given up tv at that point.
