Phishing IQ Test

Quote:

Chances are that in the past week you've received an e-mail in your inbox that pretends to be from your bank, e-commerce vendor, or other on-line site. Hopefully you've realized that many times this e-mail is fake - a phishing e-mail. The sender (phisher) of these fake e-mails wants you to click on the link in the e-mail and go to a phishing Web site - which will look just like the Web site of the company being phished. Once on the phishers Web site they hope to obtain your account, financial, credit and even identity information. Of course not every e-mail you receive is a phish. In fact you should expect your bank or e-commerce vendor to send you legitimate e-mail. But how can you tell the difference? Well that's what the Phishing IQ test is all about - give it a try.
Take Test
I missed one and now my identity has been stolen & my life is over :/

I missed two, both the paypal ones. It was the links. I hadn't clocked that they weren't paste in links rather than clickable.

Also the list of official looking details. Would only be convincing to me if they included transactions I recognised.

I missed them all, by answering "No Answer".

I'm not even clicking on the link to take the test. It's probably some super-clever double scam.

I nearly got caught by a PayPal scam IRL.
I logged into to PayPal to check it rather than follow the link. Just out of habit - I wanted to keep my hotmail open as I had a lot of emails to get through.

I got the Bank of Choice one wrong (because it looks nothing like a mail I would receive) and the IRS one wrong. But again - foreigner here.

I get phishing mails in cycles. None for ages then a slew.
But I spot them and report them immediately.
They all purport to be from banks, building societies and credit card companies. Many people will have online accounts with them, but I don't.

In fact I had one from Marks & Spencers the other day, warning me that there may have been some fraudulent activity on my M&S card, taking me over my agreed limit of £1000. Had a good chortle at that one. But I guess it's a common credit limit so it would work on the right people.

Fishing.

Think of the number of fish that swim past your baited hook. But you just need one dumb hungry curious ill fated fish to make a dinner for you. Works the same for these phishers, except they can set thousands of baited hooks in thousands of ponds for the expense and trouble of a few keystrokes. It would seem to be a very lucrative, very easy career, leaving aside the violations to our moral and legal codes.

Damn you V. I was right there with you until those last 10 words.

Are we helping phishers refine their techniques by responding to this test?

Luckily I barely respond to personal emails, much less commercial ones.
