Gender Diverse Applicants

There's something positive that our AU government has legislated on lately.

Nice work!

Quote:

On Wednesday 14 September 2011, the government announced new guidelines to make it easier for sex and gender diverse people to get a passport in their preferred gender. Under the guidelines, sex reassignment surgery will no longer be a prerequisite to issue a passport in a person's preferred gender. For more information please refer to the sex and gender diverse information page on this website

Is there a prescribed list of genders to choose from, or is it write in, in your passport does it say 'gender:...' or 'sex:...'

I think most people can see where I'm going with this, they may not have thought their plan all the way through.

BrianR 11-15-2011 09:37 AM

Generally, they either leave off the gender or allow the applicant to choose which it is to be.

Aliantha 11-15-2011 03:52 PM

Well, most people want to get a passport they can use, so I think it'd be generally unlikely that anyone would put something other than what they are. There's enough fucking around with a passport ap without deliberately holding up the process.

Recently I've only done kids ones, and there's only a M or F check box. The adult one may be different now though.

because I'm too lazy to create a new thread:

The federal appeals court in Atlanta appears ready to grant a legal victory to Vandy Beth Glenn, a transgender woman who was fired as a legislative editor at the General Assembly after she disclosed she was going to make the transition from man to woman.

From here

And the follow up:

There IS hope for us all!

WTF could that possibly have with one's ability to do one's job? Gahhhh.

When I applied for my current job I was invited to choose between male, female, transgender or other. Bunch of PC liberal elitists that we are. :D

Oh my god, Zen. You can check Other? This is down in Fourecks? i mean Australia? That brightens my evening like you would not believe.

I saw your defensive post elsewhere saying, hey, im just trying to be funny in a fun community, but by posting a video titled "the last straight man on earth" in a thread celebrating the success, at least in one dry little dangerous island full of things that can kill me, of gender-variant people in securing slightly more equal legal protection, is just not okay. That's not being light and humourous - that's being offensive and dismissive. If you posted the video with a comment, even a cheeky one, on your thoughts on the political and civil rights of the gender-variant, that would be one thing... This is another.

Ibram, don't pay too much heed to Unca D. He has mostly just been tossing video links about without getting much feel for the community or what is going on.

Speak your mind, though, of course.

Its times like this when I wish the cellar was more moderated and that crap could be cleaned up (removed)I know, I know ... slippery slope and all.

Yup.

For what it's worth, when I was nominated to be a moderator, I pointed out that I don't watch videos at work, so I wouldn't be moderating any videos.

I haven't watched any UncaDollas videos, although I did delete two of them when I saw they were duplicates of others he had posted, and nobody had replied yet so it wouldn't mess up the thread continuity.

My default is to not ban people. I was getting annoyed with him and thought about banning him, but decided not to once he started actually making comments. But we'll see how it goes.

I agree with you glatt. I ignore the videos mostly. They're few and far between, too, his posting spurts. It's not like pulling up 'new posts' since last log-in and every single time wordass and disass have to be looked at so they disappear again. Not nearly as intolerably irritating, then. IMHO.
