I've only been an observer of the phrenzy but the usual deal is someone posts a legit image followed by a photoshop version. Then the others have at. Its been a pretty quiet though and we don't have much law enforcement here. * sidebar- this image was already posted here* I'd like to see this section pick up a bit but I don't have the software.

The Gimp kicks butt for image manipulation, and it is free and open source. It's a port of the Unix app, the interface takes some getting used to.
