Emperor Palpatine--er, Pope Benedict resigns

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...91A0BH20130211

Seriously, y'all. He's getting medieval on our asses--since he's the first pope to resign since 1415. I, for one, am kind of shocked by the progressiveness of this decision, since everyone seems to think it's because of his role in the child abuse scandals.

I was surprised to hear the news on the radio this morning. They didn't have the 1400's context to report then, so I thought it had never been done before.

ZenGum 02-11-2013 08:25 AM

So, will this make him Ex-Benedict?

Pete Zicato 02-11-2013 08:26 AM

I'm cynical these days, but I suspect that some scandal will surface soon.

Yes, I think he's fallen in love with one of his closest aides, and before he commits a cardinal sin he's decided to resign!

I wonder what other tidbits his valet turned up?

infinite monkey 02-11-2013 09:29 AM

He found a joint in the Papal Glove Compartment?

footfootfoot 02-11-2013 09:38 AM

Wow. Can you imagine the conversation the next morning?

Dudes, ego credidi ita luxurie abdicarunt. Quod erat aliquod primum rate cacas. Quis 'pro ientaculo?

Dudes, I was so wasted I thought I resigned. That was some first rate shit. What's for breakfast?

infinite monkey 02-11-2013 09:40 AM

:lol2:

You never fail me, foot.

You know, usually they just murder a pope.

Anyone left in the Church should be very concerned that this nutjob is alive to influence the next choice. He has basically destroyed everything he's touched, but I am grateful that he made my choice to leave so easy. Also my text to the girls this morning was also a Palpatine reference. :)

Lotta that going around.

Probably not a coincidence that the cardinal in charge of covering up predators got elected Pope. Probably not a coincidence that the former cardinal in charge of covering up predators is the first Pope to resign in 600 years.
