these hats sure seem out of place

especially in the desert!
(and people have been complaining that the US army are acting like a bunch of cowboys!...) |
Aircav, anyone? Maybe?

The white dangling fob on the front does it for me
Possibly to protect them from the barrage of shitty analysis raining down on their units? -sm |
It's interesting to me anyway that we still have a unit called the 7th Cavalry. Seems like there's some bad juju tied up with that. Maybe it serves as an effective warning that sometimes the enemy is much better armed and organized than your leaders believe.

My little brother is in the Army and I went to see him graduate from basic training. He's in a cav unit. One of the most unusual things I saw at Ft (snip) was the officers wearing these hats, complete with the appropriate cord. If I was an enemy sniper , I would be very happy about this ol' time tradition. From what I saw when I was there, they can wear whatever the fuck they see fit. These guys are *no* joke. Funny hat or no. |
Actually those are probably better hats in the desert than a standard cover ... more shade.
(Hell, I think the hats look cool.) |
But shouldn't they be white hats? We're the good guys right?
ps, plus they would reflect more of the sun and not be so bloody hot. Better yet, it they were a sandy beige they would make less of a target. |
All I can hear when I see these hats is the Bonanza theme...go figure.:3eye:

Wolf nailed it. That type of hat was developed for just that kind of climate.

Wolf, that does have a better ring to it.

"Can I see your license and registration, please?"

The Guy on the Right looks like an extra from an old west flick. :0)
