Video Card?

I keep getting artifacts on screen.Could it be my video card going bad?

I'd think browser problems

I've been getting previous-window/tab-artifacts, looks like what Buster posted. Part of the new window/tab loads, and displays, but, parts of the previous window/tab are still visible. They go away, and everything goes normal when I scroll the teensiest bit, though.
This started a couple months ago. Windows 7/Firefox, btw. ETA: It's not particularly frequent, but common enough... |

I had something similar on a Dell. Dell came with hardware diagnostics. So I heated that computer (put it in a 100 degree F room) and ran diagnostics. Diagnostics found one memory location that was defective - but only when hot. Meaning that same defect wold appear years later at room temperature. Video only went screwy when that one memory location was used (and maybe only when adjacent memory locations has a particular value). Same screen appeared repeatedly without problem. Then suddenly the display next time used that memory location - a perverted display. Temperature does not cause damage. Temperature is a diagnostic tool that finds defective semiconductors. Any computer that fails in a 100 degree F (40 C) room has defective hardware. In my case and because I had hardware diagnostics, then I located that defective memory location. Dell replaced that video card under warranty. No problems in 100 degree rooms even 10 years later. |
