In the 2016 version of "All In the Family", Gloria and Michael cannot withstand the Bunker's political views, and move out immediately; not to a house next door, but one in Brooklyn. There is little contact between the young couple and the parents. An occasional dinner together usually results in Michael asking Gloria, in hushed tones, if they could leave right after dessert.

I should not be reading A Handmaid's Tale right now.

The bright side is Millennials may be able to govern themselves.

Divide and conquer, good time for a military coup.

xoxoxoBruce 05-01-2016 03:04 PM

Which military, cooperation is not one of the strong points of any branch.

North Carolina National Guard.

Lola Bunny will sew our new flag.

Oh, I thought you said coup, not coop. :o

It is inevitable. Soon we will blame C. Everett Koop for bringing into the world all those children who become extremist.

That's it. Blame the dead guy.

We are doomed.

Ken Shupe, owner of Shupee Max Towing, arrived about an hour later and began hooking McWade’s car up to his truck — until he spotted the Sanders campaign sticker on her bumper and the yard sign placed in her rear window.

“He goes around back and comes back and says, ‘I can’t tow you,'” McWade said. “My first instinct was there must be something wrong with the car, and he says, ‘No, you’re a Bernie supporter.’ And I was like, ‘Wait — really?’ And he says, ‘Yes ma’am,’ and just walks away.”

Shupe offered a supernatural explanation for his decision to leave the 25-year-old McWade, who suffers from arthritis and other health conditions, alongside I-26.

“Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and He just said, ‘Get in the truck and leave,'” Shupe said. “And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed.”

The Donald Trump supporter then offered a more earthly explanation for stranding the customer.

“Every business dealing in recent history with a socialist-minded person I have not gotten paid,” Shupe said. “I own this truck. It says, ‘Shupee,’ not ‘freebie.’ Every time I deal with these people I get ‘Berned’ with a ‘e’ — not a ‘u’.”

In New York, our cabbie back to the airport was an Indian (I think, maybe Pakistani) Trump supporter. Mr. Clod engaged him in a discussion about it because he was curious. Basically it boiled down to the "successful businessman" trope and the fact that none of the buildings in NY have Clinton's name on them. But the cabbie also noted that several people had just opened the door and left the cab the minute they found out his political leanings. It's not a good era.

In other news, there's a fantastic movie on Netflix right now called "Look Who's Back," subtitled in German but well with it. The premise is Hitler somehow supernaturally wakes up in 2014, and gets right back to work, except people assume he's a deadpan character comedian a la Sacha Baron Cohen. It sounds weird but it is honestly hysterical.

Just finished it, wow, kinda terrifying. Not hysterical, scary on point for our own political moment in time.

I think I'll follow it up with A Triumph of Will to lighten the mood.

Undertoad posted this data (see below), 10 years ago, and I observed,

It's interesting to see how this played out over the last 10 years, leaving us where we are today.

And now you know why Fox gets the ratings that it does, and why AirAm can't survive.
