Do you fear public speaking?
Supposed to be the #1 fear in human beings, why is that? I've recently heard it's because we fear losing our status in the tribe, as we are being judged by our entire group all at once. For the first several hundred thousand years of humanity, being rejected by the group was typically a death sentence.

On the contrary, I adore it. I'm an attention whore.

We also look for instantaneous feedback from audience body language to guide our continued approach in interpersonal communication. We can do that with a few people at a time; but, when the numbers become too great to observe each and every one it makes us uncomfortable. Most people get used to it.

I gave a presentation in school complete with charts I had to juggle, kind of like a Ted talk. I even won a prize for it, but between the time I stood up and the time I sat down, I didn't and still don't remember a god damn thing.:o

I wonder why we talk so damn much then?
|
You know, I don't mind either way. I'm quite happy to stand up and talk to the crowd, but I'm not gagging to do it.
I know I can command a room so sometimes volunteer because what has to be said needs to be heard. But I do it more as a form of public service than for the kicks. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |
