a) Do you listen to real radio anymore? (Not streaming) And if so, is that only in the car? My alarm clock is set to the classical station. I also occasionally alternate between two local morning shows in the car when I'm not in the mood for one of my audiobooks after dropping the kids off. But no music--AND, I just got a new phone that actually has a workable amount of memory, meaning I am testing the podcast waters and may never return.
b) Who did you hero worship as a kid? Tom Lehrer c) Sunflowers or roses? I have sunflowers in my house right now, actually. They came from a funeral that had only yellow flowers, though. If I had a choice, I'd go roses. They smell nice. d) Which book from your childhood do you remember most fondly? "The Fatal Shore." It's a history book about convict settlement of Australia, which I bought because I was in a play set in that time period. It was the first nonfiction I voluntarily purchased with my own money and read, which made me proud of myself at the time, and also I have fond memories of the play intertwined with the whole thing. e) What’s the most interesting fact you know about fruit? Avocados are botanically a berry. f) Do you have a library card/whatever your local equivalent is? Yes, but I've never used it. I got it in order to attempt an interlibrary loan, and only after they issued the card did I find out the ILL wouldn't work. g) Air Traffic is grounded, you have a long way to go and no car. Train or bus? Train, no question. The seats are bigger, there's a dining car, and if you feel like spending extra you can get an overnight cabin to yourself no matter how short your trip is. h) What is the most useful gadget you own? Hand crank apple peeler. i) A pint of Milk or Orange Juice? OJ. j) You crack an egg and find out the hard way it is bad. What are you most likely to say out loud? "And THAT'S why I do them in a separate bowl..." |
b) Who did you hero worship as a kid?
Harpo Marx g) Air Traffic is grounded, you have a long way to go and no car. Train or bus? Crazy people go by bus, and they can be dangerous. i) A pint of Milk or Orange Juice? Milk, whole |
a) Do you listen to real radio anymore? (Not streaming) And if so, is that only in the car? Only in the car.
b) Who did you hero worship as a kid? Thurman Munson. c) Sunflowers or roses? Sunflowers. d) Which book from your childhood do you remember most fondly? I had a book of American folktales with really cool cartooning. e) What’s the most interesting fact you know about fruit? Raspberries flower before blackberries, cuz watching bees. f) Do you have a library card/whatever your local equivalent is? Yeah but it's expired. g) Air Traffic is grounded, you have a long way to go and no car. Train or bus? Train h) What is the most useful gadget you own? Dewalt rechargeable drill. i) A pint of Milk or Orange Juice? Either, just not together. j) You crack an egg and find out the hard way it is bad. What are you most likely to say out loud? God's only son probably takes the heat. |
a) Do you listen to real radio anymore? (Not streaming) And if so, is that only in the car? Radio in GC1 is crap, but yes, I still listen to traditional radio. Classic Rock, of course. ETA: My stereo runs all night, but, just loud enough that if you try hard, ya can just make out the song.
b) Who did you hero worship as a kid? I thought that Kelly Johnson just had to have been a badass to design the SR-71 Blackbird. And John Wayne. c) Sunflowers or roses? Roses. d) Which book from your childhood do you remember most fondly? Mrs. Frisby And The Rats Of NIMH  e) What’s the most interesting fact you know about fruit[?] Watermelons, bananas, and tomatoes are, technically berries. f) Do you have a library card/whatever your local equivalent is? Not atm. g) Air Traffic is grounded, you have a long way to go and no car. Train or bus? Bus, absolutely. I can get off when I want. [DRIFT:] "...you have a long way to go..." made me think of the Charles Bronson movie Telefon: "...the woods are lovely dark and deep but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep...":D [/DRIFT] h) What is the most useful gadget you own? Probably the red dot, instant-read, digital thermometer. I also have a usb card reader that takes like five or six types of card. It's less than an inch wide, less than a half-inch thick, and about two inches long. i) A pint of Milk or Orange Juice? Orange juice, he said in blue. OJ goes better with vodka. j) You crack an egg and find out the hard way it is bad. What are you most likely to say out loud? "Ah, fuck!" With feeling. |

in the dark sky. And over one more set of hills, along the sea, the last roses have opened their factories of sweetness and are giving it back to the world. If I had another life I would want to spend it all on some unstinting happiness. I would be a fox, or a tree full of waving branches. I wouldn't mind being a rose in a field full of roses. Fear has not yet occurred to them, nor ambition. Reason they have not yet thought of. Neither do they ask how long they must be roses, and then what. Or any other foolish question. If I weren't already just a humble Mountain Mule, I would be Mary Oliver's rose, spending my life in unstinting happiness. A sunflower by any other name... |
