5/24/2003: Big balloon sculpture
http://cellar.org/2003/balloons.jpg
This is not news, but that's because it never was and this is an attempt to fill a lazy Saturday of a holiday weekend. This is the world's "largest non-round balloon sculpture" after it was built in 2000 by the two guys standing roughly in the middle of it. And a bunch of other guys. They do seem proud, but I'm not sure we should be encouraging them. more details |
At first glance it seemed rather lame. After watching the film of these people weave 50,000 balloons together, I can see what a monumental effort this was. Of course I was always impressed by the clown making a dog out of 2 or 3 balloons. Never have so many, spend so much effort, on such questionable result.;)

It's really hard for me to grasp how big this is.
It seems like it's really big.. then like it's rather small... then it's rather big... too much of this just doesn't fit together for me. Not to mention that it's aliased like a monstrosity. |
Around . . .
17,289,634,277,136 things that I could do, that would be better useage of my time (that's an approximate number mind you).
Of course I'm not them . . . so more power to them. It's one hell of an accoplishment none the less. |
Once you've built this 40 x 80 x 25 foot monster and gotten your 15 minutes of fame, what now? What do you do with it? Where do you keep it? How would you destroy it? Fire? Bullets? weed whacker?:rattat:

blowgun might be fun ... if you could hook it up to a compressed air system ...

You know those dogs that *really* like balloons and will chase them down, then look sad when their new friend pops?
I think that letting loose 50 - 100 of those dogs and videotaping the result would be the best possible solution... ... ...or a flamethrower. Whatever floats your boat. |
Blowfish volleyball!!
