Dems Go Nuclear
|
I'm in favor!
Until one of them pronounces it "new-cue-lure". |
The only thing is that Nuclear Power requires regulation, we can't have Tom Cotton involved.
|
Nuclear power is just fine, until a human makes a mistake or series of mistakes.
|
It can be made safer than the Three Gorges Dam
|
Yeah. Theoretically, it can be very safe.
I was pretty sure the Metro was very safe because it was all computer controlled. But then they had a bad crash because the sensors were not being maintained properly, and people had come to rely on the foolproof computers so the operator was not laser focused when the computer was driving the fast train down a track that it thought was empty. The operator reacted a second or two too late. These complicated systems have a way of failing every once in a while. I know. I know. This isn't a choice in a vacuum. If it isn't nukes, it's fossil fuels, and fossil fuels will kill our planet in the end. I'm glad I'm not the one responsible for choosing which bad option to go with. |
Metro is still pretty safe. The fact that accidents like that are big news is a testament to its safety. More people die regularly on the roads with little to no mention.
Likewise, nuclear incidents are showy, but even ignoring climate change, fossil fuel plants spew radioactivity and other poisons into the air as part of normal operation. |
Good, overhaul the power grid and make it Putin proof, Xi proof, and Fatty III proof while they're at it.
Bryse makes it sound like rich people don't use electricity. |

Or, regulations are some liberal snowflake shit that we don't need so... Or, Low bid contractors get Slappy from East Bumfuckistan to come over and knock it together close enough for government work. It's not like there has been a surfeit of responsibility, ethics, and morality plaguing this country for the past few decades. While we may NEED nuclear power we sure as hell aren't responsible enough to have it. |
We do need it, but you are right that there is enough hatred for experts and over-sight in this country to make it unmanageable. Remember when Rick Perry ran on getting rid of the Dept of Energy so Trump made him the head of it? He had no idea of the functions of the department. We need sensible bipartisanship to have nice things. To be fair to Rick, he seemed to get on board pretty fast when he saw what they do, but there's always the chance that they'll get shit-canned as part of the Deep State.

It doesn't matter too much what the political appointee heads think. The departments aren't actually run by them.
