8/4/2003: Elephant reflectors

http://cellar.org/2003/elephantreflectors.jpg

There are more animal-related shots in the queue than anything else, partly because I stay vigilant for animal pics for the Friday images. I think part of it is that the regular news people are often on vacation in July and August, which makes the usual collections of shots less interesting. (That's the real reason I'm taking Sundays off this month... fewer good images out there right now.)

I thought this was in interesting note. Having grown up near Amish country in Pennsylvania, I've seen a ton of ancient buggies and animals outfitted with modern reflectors and such to keep up with the law. Well here we see that this is not just a problem with the Amish. And we've already had one IotD where an elephant was killed in an auto accident,...

So this seems like a good idea: elephant mahouts (Mahout, n. - The keeper and driver of an elephant, esp. east India) have been putting reflectors on the elephant's legs and butt to make sure cars can see them at night. It's not the law, just a good idea.

As a motorist sharing the road with a pachyderm, I'd be more interested in elephant DE-flectors!

Is that a dog in the car?

It's sad to see these magnificent elephants having to earn their living in the cities. At least they have done something about the accidents that are occurring by using reflectors on the rear ends of the elephants. I'm all for helping and saving them. Love my elephants.

I really had no idea they could move so fast!

I think what you really mean is that anything in nature is blessed, pure, and holy, but anything that man creates is evil and tainted. Am I right?

Careful Juju, don't piss her off. She can be......intense. You might find yourself running with the elephants and that's way worse than bulls.:D

Leah 08-04-2003 09:22 PM

Wow Bruce, you know me very well.
You did make me laugh though.:D

juju 08-04-2003 09:39 PM

Ah, I didn't mean to sound so sarcastic. I was just asking. :)

xoxoxoBruce 08-05-2003 04:12 AM

I was just warning you because I know Leah has a very strong affliction...er...ah...affection for elephants. :D

Does it come with air bags and standard anti-lock brakes?

I wonder what the 0-60 time is on that one.

I guess that long trunk like piece in front is the intercooling system , right?

And I thought My Lancer OZ Rally had a big ass end.

Bruce, I'm going to Thailand, Chiang Mai in early January on my way back from UK (mostly to thaw out). I'll send you some more pic's of the elephants I meet over there. You know me, I can't wait. :D
