8/22: Brush fire
http://cellar.org/pictures/hugefire.jpg
It's still brush fire season, and here's an awesome image of a plane dropping fire retardant on a huge fire. |
you'd think that the people that owned the mobile home would be moving it far far far away :)
|
It's like a still from a movie
After all the CGI effects have been done.

Attribution?
Where did you get this image? I'd like to read whatever story accompanied it...
It would be nice (in general) if you posted where you got the images from... thanks, --josh |
This one came from MSNBC's Week in Pictures, which is a very nice collection that appears on a weekly basis. Probably the best source of IotD images, actually, because they do a great job of selecting and rendering them.
http://www.msnbc.com/modules/theweek...es/default.asp Most of the images that have a photo credit in the lower right corner are from there. Since the large versions open in a new javascript window, there is no direct link to the details on this one, but it was in the week of Aug 2-Aug 9. (The seagull pic came from that week as well.) I try to list relevant facts when I have them, and sometimes I even do extra research, but it's a PITA to capture everything. |

http://www.charm.net/~mbyrd/hugepig.jpg In the latest triumph for genetic engineering, a member of the ultra-secret 51st Giant Flying Pig Squadron drops chemical fire retardant on a brush fire near Reno, NV. After the mission, the pig was covered with sauce and slowly roasted over a mesquite fire for 96 hours. Hungry firefighters in the area proclaimed him "Delicious!" |

*laughz, not bad, need to touch up your magic wand skillz though =P
|
I'd like to see the haz mat sheet on that retardant... sometimes the cure is worse than the disease ;)
|
How about taking the belly flopper and inserting her into this image instead of the pig and sending it to fark.com?
|
Don't be absurd. She wouldn't make nearly enough barbecue to feed all those firefighters.
|
Yes, I suppose all that fat would burn up in the hot flames, not leaving much for the boys.
But I still like the image of her flying through the air with all this black stuff emanating from under her body... |
