Okay, National Security is one thing, but this is ridiculous...

I received this email yesterday as a adviso regarding an order I placed a few days ago...

Dear Valued Customer,

"Due to the heightened "Orange Security Alert" through the December Holidays, several containers of our ProView 3D Glasses and ProView Clip-On 3D Glasses have been delayed in customs at the Port of Los Angeles. We have been told this delay could be from one day to seven days. By the time you read this note we may already have them back in stock and filling the small remainder of orders not yet shipped. Our solution is to send you sets of "Free" anaglyph paper glasses at no charge so you can enjoy the new Sprit Rover Mars 3D images. We will then ship you your ProView and ProView Clip-Ons as soon as we have them back in stock. We sincerely apologize for the delay as this has been an unusual circumstance that we are dealing with the best we can. Again, sorry for the inconvenience and your understanding.

Best Regards,

What, 3D glasses are somehow linked to terrorism?

xoxoxoBruce 01-14-2004 08:00 PM

How do they know it's glasses in that container unless they check? The higher the alert, the more containers they check. Smithsonian Magazine has a good article this month of the mechanics and politics of checking containers;)

Luckily I have my sets of 3-D glasses that came with my copy of "The Atomic Bomb Movie".

I was poking around JPL's site, but I'm too tired and too lazy to find them ... where are the 3-D images? (in the meantime, I'm playing the wordsearch and am very disappointed that the 3-D game isn't working for me.

Does anyone else find it ironic that a couple of days after loudly stating the America is safer b/c we caught Hussein, we up the National Terror Alert Level from Lemonade to Tang?

It would have been perfect timing for anyone looking to establish a new heroic symbol for the Arabic world through an act of remarkable defiance of the West.

Isn't that from Bert to Ernie?

Ah! Thank you so much! I was looking at the JPL images from the rover today, thinking, "Now where can I get a pair of 3D glasses?" You've provided the answer -- I forgot that a pair came with the DVD! Outstanding!

That movie is, by the way, frightening. (And not just because of William Shatner's narration.)

No, no, no, this is for real 'chatter'.

1) Within one to seven days a terrorist attack may occur.

2) The attack will occur in, or be originated from, Los Angeles.

3) <3D> figures prominently, could be an airline seat assignment.

4) Glasses are also involved. Means of recognition, or even X-Ray specs, perhaps?

5) 'Rainbow Symphony'??? Somebody is gay.

6) Plus the misspellings (Sprit Rover?) indicate a non-native English speaker.

Conclusion: My spam blocker would hit this like a $10 whore, if that were the key terms it was looking for.

Was the guy doing your rush delivery of 3-D Glasses the shithead that buzzed our nuke plant in a Piper?

edited to correct type of aircraft

Elspode 01-16-2004 01:21 PM

I hope not...I'd be afraid to wear anything transported by someone that bloody stupid.

russotto 01-16-2004 03:19 PM

I know a pilot and flight instructor who used to make students fly OVER the nuke plant. This was pre-9/11 of course.

He's not the same guy who commented at a checkpoint that he was the pilot and didn't need a gun to crash the plane, but probably only because the guy who did beat him to it.
