10/29: Bathing Afghan

This pic was taken last Friday. Now, can you imagine it? You're in northern Afghanistan, you're part of an anti-Taliban stronghold. You're fighting to free your country from one of the world's most oppressive regimes. Violence is everywhere and has been a part of things as long as you can remember. And you're surrounded by poverty, and all you have to bathe in is an ancient rusty drum full of incredibly dirty water.

But you're happy as hell.

So where does happiness come from?

If you have ever been cold, dirty and vermin-infested for a couple of weeks, for example in a jungle or something like that, the chance to have a real bath in water that isn't full of leeches is very near heavenly.

This guy makes perfect sense to me. -Anyone- doing his job would probably feel the same.
