Fireworks
4 Attachment(s)
I just purchased a new camera, an 8 megapixel Olympus C-8080, with all the bells and whistles and have been testing it out in different situations. I was fairly impressed with these firework pictures considering I just stuck the camera on a tripod, set it to night setting and clicked away, not knowing what would come out. I think the only change I should have made would have been to set it to manual focus, the auto focus feature had trouble deciding what to focus on in the darkness.

Nice shots! You're lucky to have been in a part of the country that WASN'T rained or stormed out on the evening of the 4th. *mutter*

Cool shots !!!!!!!

In DC, it rained on the 4th, but it stopped well before the fireworks. The expectation of mud/more rain kept the crowds low, which was pretty cool, especially since the grass was only slightly damp, and it didn't rain. The fireworks were awesome. They seemed bigger than before, and there weren't any of the technically impressive but gimicky smily faces.
One downside of the low turnout was that in the mad rush to the subway, there weren't enough people in the crowd to shut down the roads for very far. It's usually sort of fun to parade down the downtown roads, ignoring the honks of the impatient drivers. ;) |

I was two hours from DC for the 4th holiday. We had a troop of severe storms march through right around fireworks time, so no manmade fireworks. On the upside, we got nature's fireworks instead. Had some very impressive cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning.

I failed to mention that these shots were taken on the 3rd, no rain and nary a cloud in the sky. I was actually at the bottom of our driveway about a half mile away from the actual show site. Not only was this a better camera vantage point, as opposed to sitting right under the exploding fireworks, but we didn't have to hassle with the parking and traffic. As soon as the grand finale ended we were home! Only missed some of the lower shots below the treeline but heard and saw everything else just fine.

I'll try to get some shots on the 11th of the Redneck Games fireworks. I'm sure I can't match these shots, but I'll make an effort.

Am I the only one who thinks the Washington Monument looks eeeevil, with those two red lights?
Great pics, guys! We mostly took movies, for some reason. |
