Third Party Debate
 

Tuesday of the Repulican National Convention, the Green and Libertarian Parties held a debate in New York. C-Span is now airing this debate, in case anyone is interested in watching it.

3rd parties are great but they don't really work in the US political system for a variety of situational and structural reasons. Unsurprisingly really I always end up voting for a 3rd party, Greens in AU (they'd suck in power but make a good moderator in the Upper house), Liberal Democrats in the UK. The idea of libertarians verses greens I found funny, sorry but you couldn't find two groups who would be more ideologically opposed, commuists and fascists would have more in common. I can't think what kind of political middle ground they could find to argue over. I mean somehow 'the government should strengthen anti-pollution legislation verses 'the government should disband the EPA' just doesn't really work.

Listening to the extremes debating an issue could cause the listener to find the middle ground.
They can both bash Bush. :hafucking

Here's the agreement they'd have to sign to get in on the Kerry/Bush debates... Though I expect it's not easy to get the invite:

In theory there might be some agreement on decentralizing power and enforcing environmental standards. The enviro stuff is difficult because of the philosophical differences but I recently listened to RFK jr making the green case using property rights rhetoric, it's not hopeless. Anyway debates are for debating so why not just listen to the two different approaches. At least these guys can say what they mean since the don't have a chance in..
