One more tw - I am not defending the prez on this - but it turns out there is one person who was even more out of touch on this one... Kofi Annan.

From the NY Times of 3 Jan 2005 Secret Meeting, Clear Mission: 'Rescue' U.N.
At the gathering, Secretary General Kofi Annan listened quietly to three and a half hours of bluntly worded counsel from a group united in its personal regard for him and support for the United Nations. The group's concern was that lapses in his leadership during the past two years had eclipsed the accomplishments of his first four-year term in office and were threatening to undermine the two years remaining in his final term. ...
The apartment gathering on Dec. 5 came at the end of a year that Mr. Annan has described as the organization's "annus horribilis."
Since then, we now have one of the world's greatest natural disasters in terms of human life lost. As UT noted, Kofi's and the UN response should be subject to future questioning.

The people that suffered from the UN/Annan missteps are mostly dead. They won't be criticizing. :(

Wow, a leader who listens quietly to three and a half hours of bluntly worded counsel. Where can I sign up for one of those?

I guess they didn't think he was worth the effort. A good bottom takes training.

At least that's what I'm told anyway...

Discontent with Kofi Annan's performance as secretary general cuts across party lines.Heck,it was just a month ago that his own General Assembly passed a no-confidence motion against him.
