Ossie Davis Passes
Half of one of America's most enduring husband and wife acting pairs has passed over. Ossie Davis was found dead in his hotel room in Florida, where he was working on a motion picture.
Davis, along with his wife Ruby Dee, spent a long career at the fore of social and racial issues, often appearing in socially provocative projects. Ossie Davis was one of those rare individuals in the world of entertainment who stood firmly by his convictions, yet did not use his political leanings to advance his career. Instead, he always let his work speak for itself. Ossie Davis was an entirely remarkable man, a solid performer, a principled actor and gentleman. The current crop of Hollyweird 'activists' could learn a thing or two from this guy. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._mo/obit_davis |
I've read a few of the articles on his death today and am a little puzzled. didn't he and his wife play Bill Cosby's parents on the Cosby Show? I know it wasn't his most important role in life, but I thought it would be mentioned.

According to IMDB, the only TV appearance close to that was on Cosby, in an episode that ran in 1999. The Russell Huxtable, Cliff's Dad in the Cosby Show was played by Earle Hyman.
I had the same misplacement issue. I have to watch Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to prove to myself that he wasn't the invisible dog walker. |
Ossie was superb in Spike Lee's movie "Do the Right Thing".
|
Let's not forget his work in the movie Bubba Hotep, which is kind of funny considering, " In 2004, Davis and Dee were among the artists selected to receive the Kennedy Center Honors."
When you look back at his work it's amazing how many films were bettered just by having him in them. |
Unfortunetly, Bubba Ho-Tep is irredeemable.
Even with Ossie Davis in it. |

Sublime. |
The DVD commentary track by Elvis is funny, too.
