I'll stick with the pistol thanks. Injuring without incapacitating is not a good idea.

Besides, if those things get into general circulation, it won't be long before they get the dumb rapists out of the gene pool. The smart ones will simply remove the device before continuing.

This isn't that spike one. It's a different product with a similar concept, and the article says it should be released soon.

I would never nor would I tell my daughter to ever use that thing. I would rather risk the original rape than getting raped AND beaten bloody or murdered after the dude finds this thing attached to himself. Plus, one of the stats said that a significant proportion of rapes are gang rapes, so the second guy (and so on) can not only skip the pain, but get revenge for the first guy. No thanks.

The first few women to wear them would be taking their lives in their hands. A rapist would be very angry to discover a cocklebur stuck to his dick. The woman would be killed.

Eventually, after the word got around, I think it would work to reduce the astronomical number of South African rapes. If enough women wore them often enough that guys had to view rape as a game of Russian roulette, I think it would be a huge deterrent. It simply wouldn't be worth the risk to the rapists.

This strikes me as an arms race of sorts. The victims arm themselves with cocklebur tampons. Maybe the rapists would next learn a trick to remove it, like stick a sacrificial hot dog in first. At least then the women would know the rapists in advance, since they would be the ones walking around with hot dogs.
