Pip pip, cheerio and all that!

plt alluded to it already, but I am soon going to the UK and France for 2.5 weeks. Perhaps some of you redcoats would like to share a pint with this old Yank while I'm there.

I will post further later, but my basic itinerary is this:

3 Jul: Depart Houston.
4 Jul: Arrive Heathrow 9am. Pick up car, drive on the left to Stonehenge, thence to Bath for the afternoon.
5 Jul: Long drive from Bath through the Cotswolds, then on to Liverpool, staying in Lancaster for the night.
6 Jul: The Lake District for the day, on to Dumfries, Scotland.
7 Jul: Short hop to Edinburgh for a good day.
8 Jul: Leave Edinburgh late, another long drive down the motorway to Wakefield.
9 Jul: Wakefied to Coventry, Stratford-on-Avon, Oxford, to the London suburb of Hemel-on-Hempstead.
10-13 Jul: Three days in the Bayswater area of London, then on to Paris and environs for a week.

Any suggestions from you locals are welcome.

Oh yes, I will taking pictures. Our first full day in Paris is Bastille Day!

Actually, we're flying thru Newark on the way, but if I ever do get to KCI you're on.

(Assuming KCI means "Kansas City International" and not "Kansas Correctional Institution")

Sounds like a rounded trip, prepared to be underwhelmed by stonehenge however. If you do inner london drop me a line, I'm usually to be found in or near the square mile if I'm in town.

Just curious, but why Edinburgh? Dumfries is about the nearest you'll get to me. From there you could come to my little island for a day instead ... Are you a city or a country person?

jag: I have nearly 4 full days in London, so if we can manage it let's try to get together. As for Stonehenge, I have to see it, but probably just from the road. I'm not paying 7 quid if I can't even get near it.

limey: Because Edinburgh is cool! Unless you know something I don't. You live on the Isle of Man, right?

NBN, you could perform a valuable service for your country - tell them you're Canadian.

I'm trying to buy a Hilton timeshare in the US. If I get it, I have the option of staying at one of three locations in Scotland in March, May, or September.

Coylumbridge at Aviemore

Craigendarroch at Royal Deeside

Hilton Dunkeld at Perthshire

That's assuming they are available.

Of course, if 12 Cellarites clubbed together, they could rent a lodge at Balmoral Castle, when the Royal Family isn't visiting.

at the moment it looks like I'll be in London around then so sure, lets catch up!

Nope, the Isle of Arran (nowhere near Inverness, despite the web page name!).

A large ferry leaves Ardrossan which is nearly 40 miles by road from Glasgow (allow 1 and a half hours to drive) or one hour by train.
Holy cow...40 miles, 90 minute drive. Must be some pretty sheep along the way. :)

You haven't seen the roads, narrow (one lane each way), twisty and ... we drive on the left :eyebrow: . But, yes, the sheep are very pretty .
