Presented as a series I guess, and sort of self-documenting. This might have made our WTF thread instead, but lookie I've put it here.

What's your problem? I travel like that all the time!

Snob.

Paint doesn't take kindly to duct tape, esp. when melted from the Texas sun :greenface

Hobbs 08-18-2005 12:15 PM

For those who scoff at the multiple uses of duct tape....

All that's missing in these pictures is a ciggy hanging out of the drivers mouth and a dead deer head sticking out of the back of the car. Ahh, perfection.

I wonder....

I imagine she's making good on her threat to leave ("and I'm takin' my STUFF TOO!"). They look like they've been driving a while. Her left shoulder is sunburned. I can't make out the plate, but it doesn't look like Texas. Maybe Florida or Georgia. She's seen some setbacks (bunged up fender, car broken into through left rear quarter window), but she's doing something about it. The optimism and determination displayed here is admirable.

Good Luck to you. I hope everything turns out better.

LabRat 08-18-2005 01:42 PM

I would love to hear the story that lead up to these pictures. The sunburn might not be from this trip, coulda happened before, who knows. If the story is she's leaving her hubby tho, I am interested in the reason for a ring still on her left hand. I'd have pawned it for $$ for a U-haul myself...

wolf 08-18-2005 01:44 PM

She's probably saving the ring for her first month's rent and crack order at her destination.

I guess The Joads are still on the road...

I think the assumption is that the Amarillo -> road sign is refferring to Amarillo Texas thus either in Texas or somewhere east of north Texas. So probably either Oklahoma or Texas as far as I can guess.

OK, How flippin bazaar is this? I found these pics on http://www.okroads.com/dandm/i44ok.html. What are the odds of me typing in Exit 120A and coming across these? I love the internet!!!

Interstate 44 East approaching Exits 120A-B -
Interstate 40 - 1/4 mile. The interstate lies just
past the North Canadian River, which Interstate
44 is about to cross here.

I'm with you. I'd bet money that that's an Oklahoma plate. (Can't you see me swelling with pride over the actions of my fellow Oklahomans?) Here's a very blurry example of an older Oklahoma plate, before the state seal(?) was added to the middle. I didn't bother to blur the numbers because it's from a bunch of junk that someone dumped on our property.

Anyway, plates don't mean much, of course. But the fact that Exit 120A on Hwy 40 to Amarillo is in Oklahoma does. Oh, great. I just confirmed that I share a state with these people.

Actually, a lot of people in Oklahoma look like that all the time. Sunscreen is frowned upon (or so you'd think), and Overtanning Syndrome is rampant here. People with the wrong skin tone to get that bronzed look just end up looking red and freckled all the time.

It makes perfect sense. Your skin can look ugly and sunburned all the time, and later you can get skin cancer. It's win-win!

Why must my internet be so slow? :( You beat me on both the tag confirmation and the road/exit confirmation. *kicks dialup connection*

barefoot serpent 08-18-2005 03:05 PM

OK... that makes the Grapes of Wrath reference even more poignant.

But as a wise person once said:
Before you go making fun of someone; maybe you should drive a 100 miles in their car...
