Surfing ON a cruise ship

Yeah...on a cruise ship. Big pool with a constant wave.
Check it out.

I caught a glimpse of that on one of their recent TV commercials. Pretty cool.

I'm surprised that the concept hit the ships first ... you'd think that inland surfing would be big $$.

Reminds me of an endless pool on steroids. Cool idea.

BigV 09-30-2005 11:53 AM

Damn! That is cool. We've been on several cruises, and that is the coolest onboard entertainment I've seen. Beats the casino, the show, the movie, skeet, golf, spa, everything. Well, maybe not the dining room. Sweet.

wolf 09-30-2005 12:26 PM

Skeet's definitely cooler too. But I'd try the surfing thing.

Dude, they've had one of those at Schlitterbahn for at least 15 years, except theirs is bigger and steeper. I thought all waterparks had them...

xoxoxoBruce 10-02-2005 12:42 PM

With a name like Schlitterbahn, it's got to be good. :D

Clodfobble 10-02-2005 04:01 PM

Rated the #1 waterpark in the country by the Travel Channel!

Wow, a season pass for $106.69. I'd end up looking like a giant prune.

"Waterloop!"

Those "Endless Pools" are made less than a mile from my house.

I think a lot of Water Parks the endless wave but I've never heard of then on a ship before...... except the Titanic or Poseidon. :mg:

I knew someone who thought the Endless Pools were too pricey, so he made his own. Took him six months of picking fiberglass out of his palms and getting resin stuck in his hair, but it works great.

I do not know if his materials cost was lower than the expected installed cost of a commerical Endless Pool, but factoring in his time, it was likely much more expensive.

But it kept him off the streets.

xoxoxoBruce 10-03-2005 03:54 AM

Probably should of started with a commercially available container and rigged the plumbing himself.
I built a raised roof for my van and had clothes that would itch years later after being washed a hundred times.

wolf 10-03-2005 01:39 PM

If I recall correctly, he had his own specific plan for how to run the water channels and attach the motors that he wouldn't have been able to pursue if he bought one of the commerical tanks, so he built from the ground up.

HungLikeJesus 07-02-2008 12:58 AM

I didn't see the constant wave because that animated woman kind of freaked me out.

Regarding the Endless Pool, the ad says it "provides all the benefits of a full-size pool in a fraction of the space," but not one of the examples included a swim-up bar.

Travel Channel had the seriously dopey chick who travels the world try to ride one on a recent cruise segment. She tried like forty times and never got up.
