Enron Executive Agrees to Plea Deal

Prosecutors Gain Witness Against Lay, Skilling

Enron Corp.'s former chief accountant agreed to plead guilty today to criminal conduct that preceded the company's collapse into bankruptcy, according to sources familiar with the negotiations, sealing a deal that gives prosecutors another key witness against former chief executives Kenneth L. Lay and Jeffrey K. Skilling on the eve of their fraud trial.

Richard A. Causey, 45, who is facing more than two dozen criminal charges, is scheduled to appear in a Houston courtroom at 3 p.m. Eastern time today, according to court records. He reported directly to Skilling for years and participated with Lay on conference calls and analyst meetings in the weeks before Enron fell apart.

All three men had been scheduled to face trial Jan. 17, and the trio long had presented a united front. But eleventh hour negotiations with the Justice Department's Enron Task Force -- and the prospect of spending decades behind bars if he gambled at trial and lost -- ultimately proved persuasive for Causey, who had rejected previous government offers, the sources said. They spoke only on condition of anonymity because of the impending trial.
It doesn't look good for Skilling and Lay. Now Lay's lawyers will probably convince him is to play dumb and say it was all Skilling's fault. He might find some believers.

It really doesn't matter anyway. All he has to do is drag the trial out for two years and walk away with a presidential pardon when GWB leaves office.

Gotta reward those people who know how to make fast, easy, big money.

The only difference between the Enron thugs and the guy on the street who robs you is that Enron didn't use a gun.

AND Enron hurts you worse, financially. :(

And they got a hell of a lot more people than the best street thug in all of history.

The thing that really gets to me is that, once caught with their hands in the cookie jar (or rather, catching the cookies that were being put into a cookie jar with the bottom cut out), *none* of these guys takes it like a man and says, "Yeah, I'm a common thief, you got me." All of them are pointing the finger at each other and lying their asses off in hopes of getting a lighter punishment.

Even in their conviction and imprisionments, they're *still* lying, thieving scum, who probably can't wait to be back out on the street so they can start a new scam to con hard working people out of their hard earned dollars.

Parasites, nothing more, nothing less.

Lay cheats the executioner

Elspode 07-05-2006 03:26 PM

I think Mr. Lay's demise might serve as a suitable cautionary tale as regards dishonesty and stress factors.

Happy Monkey 07-05-2006 03:51 PM

He was doing fine with the dishonesty. It was getting caught that stressed him out.

xoxoxoBruce 07-05-2006 05:32 PM

I'm very sad about this. :sniff:
I was hoping he would have many, many years as Big Leeroy's bitch.

Griff 07-05-2006 06:26 PM

Nobody that tight with W will ever get the "Leeroy" treatment. Did you guys here the Snow denial a personal relationship between W and his largest single donar?

He continued to lie saying he had lost everything. Turns out he was down to something like his last (modified the number) $40 million. I find him no different than Noriega. He got what he deserved. Any pain he caused his family is all his own fault. Now let's get the money - give it to others who suffered directly due to a devil Ken Lay - liar and MBA.
